Laser Hair Removal

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. This light beam passes through the skin and targets dark pigment called melanin. When the beam hits the melanin in the follicle, the intense heat destroys the hair follicle.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments will vary since everyone’s hair grows differently depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medications and other factors. Interestingly, not all hairs are growing at the same time. Hair is in one of three distinct phases of development which are anagen (active), catagen (transitional) and telogen (resting). The laser only works on follicles in the active growth phase. Normally it takes a series of 4 to 6 treatments at 4 to 12 week intervals to guarantee permanent hair reduction. Studies have shown hair reduction of 20-28% after each treatment. No one can achieve permanent hair reduction with a single treatment.

Is this treatment painful?

Most clients tolerate the procedure well. Some clients feel a burning or stinging sensation as the laser pulse is delivered. Topical anesthetic cream can be applied one hour prior to treatment to more sensitive areas. Our laser systems have an skin cooling device incorporated into the handpiece. This device helps to lower the temperature of the skin at the treatment site before, during, and after laser exposure. Cold compresses or soothing gels can also be applied after treatment.

What do I have to do before I start treatments?

No waxing, tweezing, depiliatories, or bleaching of hair six weeks prior to your laser treatment. No sun bathing, tanning beds, or self tanner 4 to 6 weeks before treatment.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Immediately following the laser treatment you may notice some redness and swelling. The area may feel similar to a sunburn for a few hours after treatment. During the next few weeks it may appear that you have new hair growth, but it is actually the shedding of the dead hair. This is the expected clinical course.

Is it safe?

Laser hair removal is relatively safe with minimal side effects associated with the procedure. Darker skin individuals have a higher risk of burns and hyperpigmentation. At La Bella Medispa our medical team will customize your treatment plan based on your skin color and texture to minimize any possible side effects.

Who is a candidate for laser hair removal?

Hair color and skin type are the key factors in the success of laser hair removal. The ideal client for laser hair removal is someone with fair skin and darker coarser hair. The most unsuccessful candidates are people with red, blonde, gray hair and darker skin tones.

How much does it cost?

The cost of laser hair removal treatment varies depending on the area being treated.

Is it Permanent?

Studies have shown that patients can achieve an 85-90 % permanent hair reduction. The hair that is remaining grows back lighter in color and texture.

Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

It is a noninvasive procedure that offers a safe controlled removal of the stratum corneous (top layer of dead skin cells).

What are the advantages of Microdermabrasion?

This procedure is beneficial in two ways. First, the abrasive action of the crystals removes the layer of dead skin leaving the skin soft, with a youthful glow. Second, the vacuum action helps increase blood flow to the skin. This helps stimulate the production of new collagen.

Who will benefit most from this procedure?

Anyone with acne or mild acne scarring, superficial lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, large or clogged pores, uneven skin texture or sun damaged skin.

How does the Microdermabrasion work?

A highly controlled spray of fine medical grade aluminum oxide crystals are applied to your face followed by a vacuum system that pulls up the dead skin and crystals. Afterwards, a soothing hydrating cream and SPF 30 sun block is applied to treated area. The procedure takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments recommended for maximal results range between 5 and 12 treatments, spaced 1 to 3 weeks apart. Major changes like reduction of wrinkles and scars become visible after five treatments. Maintenance treatment is recommended at least every three months.

Does it hurt?

Generally, microdermabrasion is virtually painless. Some clients may experience a sensation resembling a light sunburn or windburn.

Are there any pre and post treatment instructions?

You should stop any skin care products containing Retin-A, glycolic acid, Differin, Renova or hydroquinone 48 hours before treatment. You can resume these products 24 hours after treatment. Avoid sun exposure for at least a week after treatment, and always wear UVA/UVB sun block.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Your skin may be pink for up to several hours. During the first 24hrs, your skin may feel dry with a sunburned sensation. You will need to use a lot of moisturizer during the first few days.

Is there anyone who should not have Microdermabrasion?

This procedure is not recommended for clients who are prone to keliod, undiagnosed lesions, recent herpes outbreaks, warts, active weeping acne, active rosacea, auto-immune system disorders, clients on Accutane, or those who had a recent chemical peel.
