What is Breast Implant Removal?

Breast augmentation is a very popular procedure, enabling many women to enjoy what they feel to be their proper proportions and live with a more feminine and curvy silhouette. Unfortunately, in some cases, women can be unhappy with the results of a previous breast augmentation procedure. In other cases, the implant may shift its position, rupture, or present another type of postoperative complication. If you’re considering breast implant removal in Maryland for these reasons or any others, you’re encouraged to reach out to Guy Cappuccino MD Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

We’re proudly serving patients in Mount Airy, Frederick MD, and the nearby areas, and we’re excited to learn more about how we can correct your breast implants. To set up your in-person consultation, simply reach out to our Mount Airy office and speak with a member of Dr. Cappuccino’s highly experienced team.

Preparing for Your Breast Implant Removal

You’ll be given specific preparation instructions before your procedure by Dr. Cappuccino and his staff. Since no two breast implant removal procedures are ever exactly the same, your exact preparation will be unique to you and your surgery. You’ll likely need to fast for a period of time before your procedure, and it will be important that smoking is avoided during this period of time, as well.

Your Breast Implant Removal Options

Depending on your motivation for seeking out breast implant removal in Maryland, Dr. Cappuccino may recommend one of the following procedures, each of which can help you restore your appearance and overall quality of life.

Implant Removal Only

This is the most straightforward breast implant removal procedure and is typically recommended when a patient is simply dissatisfied with their implants and no other complications are present. Often this procedure can be done in an office setting under local anesthesia.

En Bloc Implant Removal

When leakage or other serious problems are present, it can be important to remove the implant and tissue capsule surrounding it at the same time. This helps to preserve the capsule and avoid potential risks.

Capsulectomy

If a hardened tissue capsule has formed around the implant, a capsulectomy can remove the implant along with the scar tissue surrounding it. This is recommended when capsular contracture or rupture occurs.

Removal and Replacement

When patients are interested in a different type or size of implant, Dr. Cappuccino can perform a relatively straightforward implant removal and replacement procedure, giving you a high level of control over your final outcome.

Proudly Serving the Mount Airy, Maryland Area

There are a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures, such as Breast Implant Removal, that our practice performs. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving more information on this particular procedure.

Plastic surgery encompasses both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve the patient's appearance and self-esteem. Cosmetic surgery is usually not covered by health insurance because it is elective. To learn more, reach out and set up your consultation with a member of Dr. Cappuccino’s dedicated team.

Your Choice for Expert Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body, caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. It is generally performed to improve functions, but may also be done to approximate a normal appearance. Reconstructive surgery is generally covered by most health insurance policies, although coverage for specific procedures and levels of coverage may vary greatly. There are a number of "gray areas" in coverage for plastic surgery that sometimes require special consideration by an insurance carrier.

These areas usually involve surgical operations which may be reconstructive or cosmetic, depending on each patient's situation. For example, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)—a procedure normally performed to achieve cosmetic improvement—may be covered by insurance if the eyelids are drooping severely and obscuring a patient's vision.
